D’Banj’s Oliver Twist

Gets 4 Nominations at the 2012 World Music Awards

Things are apparently going well for D’banj as his hit single Oliver Twist has been nominated in four categories at the 2012 World Music Awards, the highest nomination by any Nigerian artiste. The song is nominated in the Best African Act, Best Music Video, Best Song of the Year and Best World Artist

D’banj is also booked to perform at the Awards which will hold December 20th in Miami, Florida.

In a similar development, D’banj has also reportedly signed a distribution pact with UK giant music label, Sony Music Entertainment’s RCA Africa label; one of the flagship labels under Sony Music Entertainment.

Sony also signed a strategic partnership with D’Banj’s Nigerian record label DB Records, who’s catalog includes artists and producers such as J.Sol, Jay Sleek and DeeVee. DB will now have their records distributed by RCA which is also home to Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Mario, Monica, and Pitbull.

AP Source: Michael Jackson dies in LA hospital

AP - Friday, June 26, 2009 03:43:42

Hundreds of people gathered outside the hospital as word of his death spread. The emergency entrance at the UCLA Medical Center, which is near Jackson's rented home, was roped off with police tape.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Michael Jackson has just died," a woman boarding a Manhattan bus called out, shortly after the news was announced. Immediately many riders reached for their cell phones.

In New York's Times Square, a low groan went up in the crowd when a screen flashed that Jackson had died, and people began relaying the news to friends by cell phone.

"No joke. King of Pop is no more. Wow," Michael Harris, 36, of New York City,

read from a text message a friend sent to his telephone. "It's like when Kennedy was assassinated. I will always remember being in Times Square when Michael Jackson died."

Celebrating Afro-Brazilian Women’s Undeniable Beauty

Taís Araújo, Afro-Brazilian actress

Valquiria Ribeiro –  actress

 Raquel Villar  – model

In celebration of the beauty of Afro-Brazilians, we have listed a few of Brazil's beautiful black women.

Even though Brazil wants to celebrate an image of unity and inclusiveness, we find that the erasure in the stands at the World Cup is a telling reminder that blackness is rendered invisible in that country. What some Brazilians of African descent are saying is that there has always been a denial in Brazil about the role of black people in the country. Even Seleção star Neymar has come in for some criticism over how he has changed his image.

Meet the ladies!

The women we’re highlighting are actresses, singers, models, television presenters and even a sports star. Obviously beauty is not the only thing we can talk about when it comes to Afro-Brazilians, but when people talk about Brazilian beauty and especially that of models, they automatically think of those models who have more of a European look. The variety and range of skin tones in Brazil is therefore not widely celebrated, even though Brazilians have this famous type of beauty.

In celebration of the beauty of Afro-Brazilians, we have listed a few of Brazil’s beautiful black women.
